About Us About Us

We have been associated with marching bands for over 120 years. At least every member of the family can either play a flute or a drum or both. Our great grandfather was a fifer and played with the lambeg drums in Tullyhogue, Co. Tyrone.  His sons were either fifers or drummers and the tradition is still strong as his great grandsons are both holders of World Championship Medals for playing in flute bands.

Flute and Drum repairs have been carried out in our Enniskillen premises since 1981, but originally started over 40 years ago by our repair specialist Alvin Mullan. Since then we have repaired thousands of flutes for bands throughout Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, UK and Europe. We also repair traditional irish flutes and have worked for Cathal McConnell and late John Joe Maguire.

We decided to design of our own wooden Bb 5 key marching flute and call it 'Mull-Wilk', that was in January 2005 and since then that flute has been sold to 33 bands throughout Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Scotland.   In April 2010, the name was changed from 'Mull-Wilk' to 'Mullan' Flutes.

As we are located in Enniskillen, Co. Fermangh (West of Ulster) and having no Music Shop to cater for marching bands in the area, we decided to start Erne Music Supplies.

We listen to our customers and try of supply instruments which they need and in some cases we design new instruments for these bands. Back in 2007, we got an enquiry from a band in South Londonderry, they had been using Skeleton drums (which are small brass drums with cut-outs on the shells) their drums were approaching 100 years of age and were in need of replacing.  We searched the world for a manufacturer and when we found one we got moving to ordering a sample.  We held an evening in Curran Orange Hall in South Londonderry to promote the new skeleton drum. We left that night with 47 orders. The following week new orders came in from the local A.O.H. bands who also used the skeleton drums and the total order soon came to 100 drums.

2009

We launched our Belleisle range of metal Concert flutes and have sold to a number of part music flute bands and flute choirs throughout the UK. In 2009 we designed a new Belleisle G Treble which has proved to be greatly loved by experienced flute players in the part music flute band world.

Also in 2009, having attended a large musical instrument fair in Germany, we saw a company who had developed Carbon Fibre marching drums and drumkits. On ordering a sample and testing it, we decided to let others view it and get their comments as to whether it would be ideal for marching bands. Their comments where excellent and we decided to promote the drum to marching bands throughout the UK.  The company who developed and manufactured the drums are based in Taiwan and now Erne Music Supplies are the UK & Ireland Distributors for the Ming Carbon Fibre Marching Drum.

2010

2010, was an exciting year for Erne Music Supplies, the 'Mullan' Bb flutes are still getting good reviews and more flute bands have been placing orders. Ming Carbon Fibre marching drums are also getting excellent reviews and we are getting orders from bands throughout Northern Ireland and as far a way as Waterford.

We were approached by SABIAN Cymbals earlier last year to design cymbals for 'Blood and Thunder' Flute bands and we are working with three flute bands in Northern Ireland who were testing cymbals over the 2010 parading season.

In January 2010, we opened an account with Pearl Flutes and over the year we supplied 5 flute bands with Pearl Flutes, Piccolo's, Alto and Bass Flutes. At the end of 2010 we became Northern Ireland's Top Pearl Flute Dealer. We also became a Pearl Drum dealer and sold a set of Pearl Pipe Band Drums to the Pakistan Army in August 2010.

2011

We continue to support local band competitions and in February 2011 we sponsored the Northern Ireland Flute Band Association Annual Own Choice Contest in Lisburn and we donated a new 'John Murdie Memorial Cup' which will be presented to the winners of the Grade Four/Unaffiliated. The Winners of the Cup for 2011 is Orangefield Flute Band from County Down.

2011 is looking to be another busy year.  We are continuing to sell Ming Drums into the Repubic of Ireland  and recently supplied Maghery Fife and Drum Band in County Donegal. In April we sponsored the 46th National Band Championships of Ireland held in The Helix, Dublin. We have now supplied St. Mary's Fife and Drum Band in Limerick with a full set of Mullan Bb Flutes.

We have since received a further two orders for sets of Pearl Pipe Band Drums for the Pakistan Army and we are increasingly receiving orders throughout the World including an order for a Drum Major Sash for the Band of the National Army of Gambia (West Africa) and more recently from the World Famous Bahamas Brass Band (West Indies).

July 2011, saw us revamping our website and adding card payment facilities and already have seen the benefits with increasing sales from Europe and USA. In August, we built a new store and showroom at our excisting premises so that we can increase into a new range of marching accessories and be able to show a more larger range of drums.
